புராணகாலம்தொட்டு இன்று வரையிலும் உலகில் பல்வேறு இன மக்களிடையே நாக வழிபாடானது இருந்து வருகின்றது. ஒவ்வொரு நாட்டினரும் ஒவ்வொரு பெயர் வைத்து வெவ்வேறு முறையில் நாகவழிபாட்டினை மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றனர். குறிப்பாக வெப்பமண்டல பகுதியான தென்னிந்தியாவில் பல இடங்களில் நாகத்திற்கான கோவில்களும் அவற்றிற்கான வழிபாடுகளும் நேர்த்திக்கடன்களும் நடைபெற்றுக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. தமிழ்நாட்டில் குறிப்பாக குறிஞ்சி, முல்லை நிலங்களைப் பெறுமளவில் கொண்டிருக்கும் கொங்கு நாட்டில் நாகவழிபாடு பெற்றுள்ள முக்கியத்துவத்தினை இக்கட்டுரை முன்வைக்கிறது. சிறுதெய்வ வழிபாடு நிறைந்துள்ள கொங்குநாட்டில் பல இடங்களில் நாகத்;திற்கான கோவில்களும், நாக சிற்பங்களும் அமைந்து இன்றளவும் பெருவாரியான மக்களால் வழிபடப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. கொங்குநாட்டில் நாகவழிபாடு பெற்றுள்ள முக்கியத்துவத்தினையும் உட்பொருளையும் ஆராயும் விதமாக இக்கட்டுரை அமைகின்றது

Abstract

From ancient times to the present day, Naga worship has existed among various ethnic groups around the world. People of each nation have adopted different names and practiced Naga worship in diverse ways. Particularly in South India, a tropical region, temples dedicated to Nagas, along with rituals and votive offerings, continue to be observed in many places. This article highlights the significance of Naga worship in Tamil Nadu, especially in the Kongu region, which largely comprises Kurinji and Mullai landscapes. In the Kongu region, which is abundant with folk deity worship, Naga temples and Naga sculptures are found in many places and are still worshipped by a large number of people today. This article is structured to explore the importance and underlying significance of Naga worship in the Kongu region.
