Due to significant transformations in the lifestyle and social structure of the people of the Marutham region, this region appears more advanced than the other landscapes.
The heroine of the *Marutham* landscape is recognized for her excellence in managing the household and her commitment to preserving noble social traditions for future generations. The *Parathai* (courtesan) is the primary cause of the lovers' tiff—a characteristic feature of this landscape. Poets depict the heroine expressing her displeasure regarding her partner's misconduct through the use of *Ullurai* (implicit imagery), drawing upon natural phenomena, the behavior of other living creatures, and various occupations and events. One can discern how a sense of comparative justice is conveyed through the *Marutham* poems by juxtaposing the heroine’s feigned lovers' quarrel—triggered when the hero deviates from noble conduct—with the ethics of warfare. These poems establish the agency of women by highlighting the life-affirming principle that a lovers' quarrel, when resolved through reconciliation, paves the way for human flourishing.
