Abstract

It can be said that in the history of Tamil literature, there isn’t a single poet who has not sung about nature. From Sangam literature to contemporary modern poetry, nature has continuously remained an inseparable element of human life.

Specifically, during the era of devotional (Bhakti) literature, worshipping nature and perceiving the Divine within the beauty of the natural world were primary paths toward spiritual realization. The hymns of Thirugnanasambandar, who brought about a religious renaissance in Tamil Nadu during the 7th century, are richly infused with both deep devotional sentiment and profound ecological values.
