Among these texts, *Kalithogai* offers a clear definition of the concept of *Aatruthal* (succor/support), stating, "To provide succor is to help the destitute." This line conveys that the essence of *Aatruthal* lies in empathizing with the suffering of others and standing by them when they are in need. This article examines the significance of the concept of *Aatruthal* within *Kalithogai* and elucidates how it evolves from an individual virtue into a social responsibility. Furthermore, by drawing comparisons with ethical concepts found in *Thirukkural*—such as *Eegai* (charity), *Aruludaimai* (compassion), *Oppuravarithal* (social reciprocity), and *Virundhombal* (hospitality)—the study explores the role of helping others within the Tamil ethical framework.
