Abstract

மொழியின் வளர்ச்சிக்குத் துணைசெய்கின்ற இலக்கியங்கள் காலச்சூழலுக்கு ஏற்ப தோன்றுபவையாகும். தமிழ்மொழியில் தோன்றிய இலக்கியங்களும் காலப் பகுப்பின் அடிப்படையிலேயே வரையறை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன. அவற்றுள் பிற்காலத்தில் தோன்றிய இலக்கிய வகையாகப் பிரபந்தம் திகழ்கிறது. பிரபந்தம் என்பது சிறிய அளவிலான நூலாகும். பிரபந்தம் என்பது வடச்சொல். இதன் பொருள் நன்கு கட்டப்பட்டது என்பதாகும். செய்யுள், யாப்பு என்பன தமிழில் இப்பொருள் தழுவியனவாகும். பிரபந்தம் என்ற சொல் செம்மையாக ஆக்கப்பட்ட எல்லா இலக்கியங்களையும் குறிக்கும். பிரபந்தம் என்பது அடிவரையறையின்றிப் பல தாளத்தாற்புணர்ப்பது என அடியார்க்குநல்லார் சிலப்பதிகார அரங்கேற்றுக் காதையில் அகநாடகங்களுக்குரிய வகையினை விளக்கும்போது கூறுகின்றார். இங்குப் பிரபந்தம் என்ற சொல் நாடக இலக்கியத்தைக் குறிக்கும் சொல்லாக அமைகின்றது. வைணவசமயத்தின் உயர்வினை உணர்த்தும் ஆழ்வார்கள் அருளிச் செய்த நாலாயிர திவ்யபிரபந்தம், சைவத்தின் மேன்மையைப் பறைசாற்றும் திருமுறைகளுள் அமைந்த பதினோராந்திருமுறையாகிய பிரபந்தமாலை முதலியன சிறிய நூல்கள் பலவற்றைத் தொகுத்துச் செம்மையாக்கப்பட்டவையாகும்.

The literature that contributes to the evolution of a language emerges in accordance with the prevailing historical context. Likewise, Tamil literature is categorized by its respective periods. Among various genres, Prabandham is one that developed later on. Prabandham is a concise literary form, with its root meaning 'well-built.' In Tamil, this is reflected in the terms Seyul and Yapu, which convey similar meanings. The term Prabandham encompasses all forms of well-crafted literature. Adiyarkkunallar describes Prabandham as an improvisation of multiple rhythms without a specific underlying definition, particularly in reference to the Akhanadakas within the Silapathikara stage. In this context, Prabandham pertains specifically to dramatic literature. The collection known as the four thousand Divyaprabandhams, which articulates the virtues of Vaishnavism, along with the eleventh Prabandhamala highlighting the supremacy of Saivism, has been meticulously compiled and refined.
