Abstract

This study examines the concept of friendship as presented in Tamil ethical literature, with particular reference to works such as the Thirukkural, Naladiyar, Pazhamozhi Nanuru, Iniyavai Narpathu, Sirupanchamoolam and Elathi. The study explains the importance of love, trust, honesty, mutual help, gratitude and moral guidance in true friendship. It also distinguishes genuine friendship from harmful friendship and highlights the need to examine a person's character before accepting them as a friend. The study further discusses friendship in times of difficulty, student life and the modern digital world. It concludes that although the forms of friendship may change with time, its basic values remain constant and continue to guide individuals towards good conduct and social harmony.
