The Naturalistic Philosophical Quest of the Oriental texts: A Comparative Study of Thirukkural, Tao Te Jing and Dammapada

Abstract

கீழைத்தேய கலை, அறிவுமரபுகள் இயற்கையை மையமிட்டு அமைகின்றன. அந்தவகையில் தத்துவ நூல்களும் அவ்வாறான முறைமையில் அமைந்துள்ளன. இதற்குக் காரணம் இயற்கையின் பண்பை உயர்வாகக் காண்பதும் அதிலிருந்து மனித மேன்மையைக் கண்டடைவதுமாக அமைகிறது. இந்த நிலையில் திருக்குறள், தம்மபதம், தாவோதேஜிங் ஆகிய மூன்று பனுவல்களும் இயற்கையின் இயல்பிலிருந்து மானிட வாழ்வின் சமத்துவத்தை, மானிட மேன்மையை, தங்களின் மெய்யியல் தேட்டங்களை முன்வைக்கின்றன. நிலம், நீர் முதலிய பஞ்ச பூதங்களும் உயிரியல் தொகுதிகளும் அவற்றின் நடவடிக்கைகளும் மனித வாழ்வை மேம்படுத்தும் மெய்யியல் தேட்டங்களாக அமைகின்றன. அந்தவகையில் கீழைத்தேய மெய்யியல் தேட்டம் என்பது இயற்கையை மையமாகக் கொண்டு அமைகிறது என்பதற்கு இப்பனுவல்கள் சான்றுகளாகின்றன. 

Nature serves as the foundation for oriental art and intellectual traditions. Philosophical texts are also structured in similar manner. The reason for this is to explore nature and draw inspiration from it for human achievement. At this point, the three scriptures Tirukkural, Dhammapada, and Tao Te Ching describe their philosophical pursuits centered on the intrinsic qualities of nature, the equality of human life, and the greatness of human dignity. The panchaboothas including land and water, as well as the biological processes and activities, are philosophical pursuits that improve human life. In this way, these texts demonstrate that the quest for Oriental philosophy revolves on nature.
