Water Needs and Usage Practices of Ancient Tamils

Abstract

Nature is an integral part of human life. All living things can survive, not just humans. It is impossible to live without nature. In this way, water is based on the development and movement of life in harmony with nature. It is noteworthy that many people, including Valluvar, have always emphasized the importance of water in their works. This paper examines the need for water in the lives of literate Tamils and the creative initiatives they have taken to harness it.

            மானுட வாழ்வியலில் இயற்கை என்பது ஓர் வரம். இயற்கையை சூழ்ந்த வாழ்வியலையே மனித இனம் மட்டுமன்றி உயிர்கள் யாவும் வாழ இயலும். இயற்கையை தவிர்த்து வாழ்தல் என்பது இயலாத ஒன்று. இப்படி இயற்கையோடு இயைந்த வாழ்வியலில் நீர் என்பது உயிர்களின் வளர்ச்சியையும் இயக்கத்தையும் அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டது. வள்ளுவர் தொடங்கி பலரும் தங்களது படைப்புகளில்  நீரின் இன்றியமையாமையை காலம்தோறும் உணர்த்தி வருவது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. அந்தவகையில் இலக்கியங்களின் வழி உணரலாகும் தமிழர்களின் வாழ்வியலில் நீரின் தேவைகளைப் பற்றியும் அவர்கள் அதனை பயன்படுத்துவதற்கு கையாண்ட ஆக்கப்பூர்வமான முன்னெடுப்புகள் பற்றியும் இந்த ஆய்வுக் கட்டுரை ஆய்வு செய்து கருத்துரைகளை முன் வைக்கிறது.
