The objective of this research paper is to analyze the information related to the art of music in Udayanakumara Kavyam. The central themes of this study include the indispensability of arts in human life, the Jain perspective on art, the social and cultural significance of music, and the practical application of music in daily life. This paper explains the importance given to arts in Jain literature, the classification of arts meant for men and women, and the cultural value of these arts.
In Udayanakumara Kavyam, the art of music is depicted as having the power to captivate not only humans but also animals, birds, celestial beings (Gandharvas), and other living creatures. Udayanan's musical skill brings about various turning points in his life. Events such as gaining freedom from imprisonment, earning the respect of kings, teaching music to Vasavadatta and Padmavati, and reclaiming the divine lute (Devayazh) demonstrate the power and social value of music.
