Abstract

Human populations within specific geographic regions systematically cultivate distinct customs, belief systems, and sociocultural practices engineered by their immediate physical environments. As these localized practices achieve broader consensus, they evolve into systemic cultural paradigms that define a region's overarching identity and dictate the lived experiences of its inhabitants. In literary study, geographic landscapes are increasingly recognized not merely as passive backdrops, but as active, performative agents integral to narrative structure. Utilizing the theoretical framework of Spatial Theory (literary spatiality), this paper examines the urban and national topography depicted in Ve. Swaminatha Sharma’s travelogue, Enathu Burma Vazhi Nadai Payanam (My Journey Through Burma on Foot), analyzing how constructed environments and geographical representations function as dynamic entities that shape socio-cultural identity.
