Abstract

This article is about Tolkappiyam system of adjectives. Thollkappiyam is the first grammar book of Tamil language. It has three chapters and each chapter is divided into nine verses. The book contains twenty seven verses.  They are one Noun Verb three Interjection Adjective in which nouns and verbs are the main words and interjections are dependent words.  The purpose of this article is to examine what Thollkappier said in terms of adjectives music, reference, attribute, one word belongs to one object, one word belongs to many objects and many words belong to one object.

இக்கட்டுரை தொல்காப்பிய உரிச்சொற்களின் அமைப்பு முறை பற்றியது. தொல்காப்பியம் தமிழ் மொழியின் முதல் இலக்கண நூல். இது மூன்று அதிகாரங்களைக் கொண்டது. ஒவ்வொரு அதிகாரத்திலும் ஒன்பது இயல்களாக பிரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது இந்நூலில் மொத்தம் 27 இயல்களைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இந்நூலின் ஆசிரியர் தொல்காப்பியர். இவர் சொற்களை நான்கு வகையாகப் பிரித்துள்ளார். அவை பெயர்ச்சொல், வினைச்சொல், இடைச்சொல், உரிச்சொல். இவற்றில் பெயர்ச்சொற்கள் மற்றும் வினைச்சொற்களை முதன்மைச் சொற்களாகவும், இடையும் உரியும் இவற்றை சார்ந்து வரும் சொற்களாகும். உரிச்சொற்கள் இசை,குறிப்பு,பண்பு என்னும் பொருண்மையிலும் ஒரு சொல் ஒரு பொருளுக்கு உரியதாகவும், ஒரு சொல் பல பொருளுக்கு உரியதாகவும் பல சொல் ஒரு பொருளுக்கு உரியதாகும்  வகைமை நோக்கில் தொல்காப்பியர்  கூறியதை  ஆராய்வதே இக்கட்டுரையின் நோக்கமாகும்.
