Wisdom (அறிவுடைமை) stands not only as an individual's supreme adornment but also serves as the fundamental catalyst for social recognition and advancement. This study comparatively analyzes the paramount position and multifaceted dimensions accorded to the noble virtue of 'Wisdom' (அறிவுடைமை) in post-Sangam Tamil ethical literature, particularly the Thirukkural and the Pathinen Kilkanakku moral treatises. It is substantiated with evidence that wisdom transcends mere informational or academic knowledge, manifesting as sound thought, discerning action, resolute determination, and a protective bulwark (Kural 421) safeguarding unwavering ethical principles. The moral treatises assert that wisdom functions as the pivotal force determining an individual's social and internal moral advancement, transcending distinctions of wealth, lineage, and birth (Naaladiyar 248). Specifically, this study elaborates on how wisdom serves as the very root of Dharma (righteousness) through intrinsic ethical values such as self-restraint (புலன் அடக்கம் - Nanneri 11), detachment (விரும்பாமை - Thirukadugam 29), and honor/self-respect (மானம் - Kural 969). This research affirms that in Tamil classical literature, wisdom is regarded as an exalted virtue, reaching its pinnacle across three dimensions: internal discipline, protection, and social elevation.
