Special Issues

Special issues gather papers on a single theme, often in partnership with a conference or a department. They go through the same double-blind review as regular issues and are published in the same series.

To propose a special issue, write to the editor with the theme, guest editors and a timeline.

How special issues are reviewed

  • Every special issue starts with a proposal – theme, guest editors and their affiliations, and timeline – approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
  • The names and affiliations of the guest editors are published on the special issue page.
  • Papers in special issues go through the same double-blind review by at least two independent reviewers as papers in regular issues, and the same similarity check.
  • The final decision rests with the journal’s editors. Guest editors do not handle their own papers; another editor does.
  • For special issues linked to a conference, presenting a paper at the conference does not mean it will be accepted.
