If this is your first submission to KALANJIYAM – International Journal of Tamil Studies, this guide walks through the whole journey, from choosing the right journal to receiving your DOI. The rules themselves are in the Author Guidelines; this page explains the order in which things happen.
Step 1: Check that your paper fits
KALANJIYAM publishes research on Tamil language, grammar and linguistics; classical and modern Tamil literature; criticism and comparative literature; Tamil history, culture, folklore and arts; translation; and Tamil education and computing. Read Aims and Scope before you start.
Step 2: Prepare two files
Because review is double-blind, send a title page (title in Tamil and English, every author’s name, designation, institution and e-mail, ORCID iD if you have one, and the declarations) and a separate main manuscript with no author names. The manuscript template shows the layout.
Step 3: Check the essentials
- Abstract of 150–250 words and 3–5 keywords, in Tamil and English.
- Up to 4,000 words including references; MLA 8th edition references.
- Tamil typed in a Unicode font; file in .docx.
- Every quotation from a classical text cited by edition and verse number.
Step 4: Submit online
Use the form on the Submit Manuscript page. There is no submission fee. You will receive an article ID and a private tracking link by e-mail.
Step 5: Editorial screening and similarity check
The editors check scope, format and originality. As a guide, papers with a similarity index above 10% are returned (see the Plagiarism Policy).
Step 6: Double-blind peer review
At least two independent reviewers assess the paper. The possible outcomes are accept, minor revision, major revision or reject. The process is described on the Peer Review Process page.
Step 7: Revise and respond
Return the revised file with a point-by-point response to the reviewers. Our guide Responding to peer review comments explains how.
Step 8: Acceptance and the article processing charge
After acceptance, the corresponding author signs the licence agreement online and pays the article processing charge of ₹1,000 from the tracking page. Waivers can be requested; see Publication Fees.
Step 9: Publication
The article is published open access under CC BY 4.0 with its own page and a Crossref DOI, and every author can download a certificate of publication from the certificate page. KALANJIYAM is an online journal (e-ISSN 2456-5148); there is no print edition.
