KALANJIYAM – International Journal of Tamil Studies invites scholars to join its panel of peer reviewers. Every research article we publish is reviewed double-blind by at least two independent reviewers, so the journal depends on the time and judgement of colleagues in the field.
Areas where we need reviewers
- Tamil language and linguistics – historical linguistics, grammar, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis
- Tamil literature – classical, medieval, modern and contemporary; literary theory and criticism
- Tamil history and culture – social and cultural history, art, architecture, epigraphy, religion
- Tamil philosophy and religious traditions
- Folklore and performance – oral narrative, music, dance and theatre
- Tamil diaspora studies, cinema and media studies
- Translation studies, Tamil education and Tamil computing
What a reviewer does
Reviewers read an anonymised manuscript and write a report on its originality, use of sources and editions, method, argument and presentation, with a recommendation to the editor. Reviewers are asked to return the report within 10 days of accepting an invitation, declare any conflict of interest, keep the manuscript confidential and never upload it to generative AI tools. Details are on the Peer Review Process and Conflicts of Interest pages.
Who can apply
Faculty members and researchers with a doctorate or substantial published work in Tamil studies or a related field. Reviewers from outside the publishing college and from outside India are especially welcome.
How to apply
Apply by e-mail as described on the Join as a Reviewer page: send your name, designation and institution, your highest qualification, your subject areas, a few recent publications, and whether you can review in Tamil, English or both. The editors will contact you when a manuscript matches your expertise.
