It is not possible to determine exactly when beliefs originated in human life. However, these beliefs play such a significant role that they can be said to guide human life itself. We can observe that these beliefs continue to persist in people’s everyday lives. Many ritual practices have emerged based on these beliefs. Together, they form an integral part of the emotional fabric of a society’s culture. Some of these folk beliefs have been recorded by S. Ramakrishnan in his novel Thuyil. This study aims to explain and elaborate on those beliefs.
