Choosing a journal is one of the most important decisions in publishing research. Here is what KALANJIYAM – International Journal of Tamil Studies (e-ISSN 2456-5148) offers, stated plainly so that you can compare it with other journals.
Peer review you can rely on
Every research article is reviewed double-blind by at least two independent reviewers, after an editorial check of scope and a similarity check. Editors do not handle papers by close colleagues, and their own papers are handled by another editor. Details: Peer Review Process, Publication Ethics.
Open access from day one
Articles are free to read and download as soon as they are published, under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Authors keep their copyright and may deposit the published version in any repository without embargo (Self-Archiving Policy).
A permanent identifier for every article
Each article receives a Crossref DOI (prefix 10.63300) and a permanent page. The full run of the journal is preserved with the Internet Archive.
Read in Tamil, found in English
Articles may be written in Tamil or English. The title, abstract and keywords are always published in both languages, so that Tamil scholarship can be found by readers and databases worldwide.
Clear, modest fees
There is no submission fee. After acceptance, the article processing charge is ₹1,000, which covers online publication, DOI registration and certificates for all authors. Waivers can be requested. See Publication Fees.
Is KALANJIYAM in the UGC-CARE list?
In February 2025 the University Grants Commission discontinued the UGC-CARE list of journals, so no journal is “UGC-CARE listed” today. Instead, the UGC issued suggestive parameters that universities and colleges use to decide for themselves whether a peer-reviewed journal is suitable; the UGC itself no longer approves or endorses individual journals. KALANJIYAM has published continuously since May 2016 – ten years in 2026 – and how it meets each parameter is set out on our UGC parameters page. Check your own institution’s current rules before you submit.
Is it indexed?
We list only services where you can check the journal’s inclusion yourself – currently Crossref and Google Scholar – on the Indexing & Abstracting page. An application to Scopus was submitted in January 2026; we will announce the outcome when Scopus decides. We do not display impact factors or similar scores from unrecognised providers.
Who publishes it?
The journal is published by the Department of Library and Information Science and the Department of Tamil, Nallamuthu Gounder Mahalingam College (Autonomous), Pollachi, which meets its running costs. The first issue appeared in May 2016. See the Editorial Board and Ownership and Funding.
