Abstract
This research paper analytically compares the Kayakalpa philosophy of the prominent Tamil Siddhar Sivavakkiyar and the modern yogic philosopher Vethathiri Maharishi, examining them through psychological and scientific lenses.
Kayakalpa is regarded as a holistic way of life that enhances physical health, mental peace, and spiritual progress by integrating the body, mind, and life-force energy. Sivavakkiyar explains Kayakalpa as a renunciatory spiritual path to attain the state of wisdom (Gnana) by controlling desires, lust, and mental impurities. Conversely, Vethathiri Maharishi frames it as a scientifically-oriented yogic practice that achieves body-mind integration through the protection of life-force (bio-magnetic energy), Ojas transformation, and meditation.
By critically analyzing the similarities and differences between these two approaches, this paper emphasizes that Kayakalpa is not merely an ancient traditional knowledge system but an integrated lifestyle capable of addressing the physical and mental health challenges of modern humanity.
