Abstract

Balakumaran is a significant writer in the landscape of the Tamil novel. His works are deeply rooted in both family and society. In particular, his novels provide extensive space for exploring family relationships. By centering his narratives on middle-class individuals and those leading ordinary lives, his novels offer a profound understanding of the family as an institution.

Balakumaran illustrates through various life situations how human relationships and conflicts serve as the driving forces behind social dynamics. The novelist captures diverse mindsets where the perception of life varies for every individual and presents them as compelling fiction. Ultimately, he records the indispensability of the family for the continuous progression of human life through a simplified lens in his creative works.
